Ontario Online Gambling Hits $3.2B in 2024 Revenue

Key Takeaways
Ontario’s regulated online gambling market generated a Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) of CAD 3.2 billion (approximately USD 2.3 billion) for the 2024–2025 fiscal year. This represents a 28.6% increase compared to the previous year. Total wagers reached CAD 82.7 billion – a 31% rise. The casino segment once again showed particularly strong performance. With 49 active operators and 84 licensed platforms, the market continues to evolve dynamically.
Strong Growth in the Second Year of Regulation
Since opening the market in April 2022, Ontario has become one of North America’s leading regulated online gambling markets. In the second full fiscal year (April 2024 to March 2025), both wagers and revenues increased significantly. The figures show growing interest from players, along with an expanding offering from licensed operators.
Casino Remains Revenue Driver
The casino sector continues to dominate the market. Of the total CAD 3.2 billion GGR, CAD 2.4 billion came from casino games. Related wagers amounted to CAD 69.6 billion. This marks a 36% revenue increase compared to the previous year.
Sports betting also saw growth: CAD 724 million in GGR from CAD 11.4 billion in wagers – a 23% revenue increase. Peer-to-peer poker remained stable with CAD 66 million in GGR, despite a slight increase in wagers to CAD 1.7 billion.
Record Numbers in the Last Quarter
The fourth quarter (January to March 2025) made a significant contribution to the annual results. During this period, wagers totaled CAD 22.9 billion – a slight increase from the previous quarter (CAD 22.7 billion). Casino activity was particularly high.
More Operators, More Choice
Currently, 49 licensed operators are active in Ontario with a total of 84 online platforms. The wide range of games and providers contributes to the market’s appeal. According to iGaming Ontario, the regulated environment offers players a safe and controlled gaming experience.

A Model for Other Provinces
With the introduction of a centralized self-exclusion system in 2024, Ontario has set new standards in player protection. This system allows players to exclude themselves from gambling across all platforms. Alberta is currently planning similar regulatory measures and could soon follow Ontario’s example.
Our Assessment
Ontario demonstrates how a regulated online gambling market can work: strong growth, safety, and diversity. The numbers show that both players and operators benefit from a clear structure and legal framework. The casino sector, in particular, is the engine of success. With enhanced player protection and a growing number of operators, Ontario remains an exciting market – not only for players, but also as a model for other regions.
